Yue Fei, whose courtesy name was Pengju, was from Tangyin, Xiangzhou. He was young with great ambition, calm and resolute in character, fond of reading, and especially proficient in martial arts. Due to poverty, he once sold medicine in the market to support his family.
In the early years of Emperor Gaozong's reign during the Southern Song Dynasty, when the Jin army invaded southward, the court recruited soldiers to resist the enemy. Yue Fei joined the army. At first, he showed extraordinary talent, leading the charge at every battle, invincible wherever he went. His mother, Lady Yao, taught him strictly, often writing the four characters "loyal and devoted to the country" on his back to inspire his will. Yue Fei remembered this for life, never forgetting it.
Yue Fei governed his troops strictly and with discipline. Once, a soldier stole civilian property, and Yue Fei immediately executed him as an example. All his subordinates respected and obeyed him, calling them: "even if frozen, they would not tear down houses; even if starving, they would not plunder." Therefore, when people heard that the Yue Army was coming, they were all delighted.
However, heaven was jealous of such talent. Qin Hui, a treacherous official, envied Yue Fei's fame and conspired with the Jin to frame him, falsely accusing him of treason. In the eleventh year of Emperor Gaozong's reign, Yue Fei was wrongfully executed at Fengbo Pavilion at the age of thirty-nine. Later generations remembered his achievements, posthumously granting him the title of Martial Warrior, and Emperor Gaozong bestowed upon him the posthumous title of Loyalty and Valor.
Alas! Yue Fei's death was not only a personal tragedy but also a national sorrow. His spirit of loyalty and righteousness shines through the ages, inspiring future generations, and will never fade away!
